You are not alone. There are lots of services that can help you and your family when times are hard.
My name is Maya Molin and I am a senior at Pierson high school in Sag Harbor. Through my work as a volunteer in community service, I’ve learned that a lot of people are struggling. I’ve also learned that many of these people are unaware of the services that are available to them. As part of my Girl Scout Gold award, I decided to create this website to help alleviate the problem.
Something else that I have learned is that it’s easy to fall into the cycle of poverty, but it’s very hard to get out. The loss of a job, the loss of healthcare benefits, the birth of a special-needs child, illness, or injury can be catastrophic for people living on the edge of poverty. Someone who lives paycheck to paycheck can fall into poverty, simply due to the cost of a car repair, a leaky roof, or a medical emergency. By connecting people in need to the appropriate organizations. I intend to help bring solutions to people with serious problems.
I believe that through education people's lives can be permanently changed for the better. By connecting students with tutoring and college counseling services, their life trajectory can be completely altered.
When the less fortunate in our community do better we all benefit.
You can apply to receive food stamps to help feed you and your family.
Open 8 am-3pm Monday and Friday.
